I may have caught a break ! At last someone to kiss-up to!

We all know that it is often who you know!  There are many people with talent out there.



I had a very good audition yesterday. While waiting in the outer office I was perusing the photos on the wall. I recognized the studio head  as a good guy I used to play basketball with. He always liked me and if I was open he'd hit me with a pass. The only thing I excelled in was a very good shot.
we chatted in the locker room a lot. He thought it was cool that I was still playing in my middle sixties.

I exclaimed to my self when I saw those photos "Oh that "John Smith!"
I knew his name but had no idea who he was. This was 8 years before the acting bug bit me.

I asked if he were available, but he was not in. I did email him, head shot and all.
I did state ...:"If this seems like a "kiss-up" letter...it is!"

Couldn't hurt?
Oh yeah, the Casting Director said "the role is yours!"  They rarely tell you that right away.
The role is all improv and is about a real murder.

Hahaha.....there is never enough kiss up...

you know how you meet someone and you just click?  This was the case.

The audition was improv. My scene partner would not shut up!  We only had one minute!
I finally interrupted with appropriate comments and and even a question the required a yes or no.  I stopped his windy answer and said "just a simple yes or no please!
The auditor clapped
When he left she said it was yours.  The kiss-up letter went out Friday night.
So, so far I got it on my own, but I will take any break I can get.

I went to one earlier in the day that pays big bucks. They were auditioning 100 guys and a few females.
Odds are not good.

Jerry, you beat that guy with cleverness!  The audition crew knew what he was doing, and they LOVED your come-back.

They shoot in Jan. Julles.
I posted a Q about the guy's behavior.  It seems to have happened to many.
One gal told me (in a post) that the auditor just shook her head.

Did a job today, a 12 hour day. I mentioned that the money was not my reason for doing it. An actress told me  " You ought not do it, because you are preventing a needier person from doing it."

Now Jerry, that's just silly. We all do jobs for different reasons. People who hire people, aren't in business as a charity. Being needy is not a reason to hire somebody. You are just lucky to be past the time of your life that acting is a way to get money. In a way, you were just saying you weren't desperate for the job. Maybe the actress took that as a putdown. But don't you think that most actors and actresses are in the business to fulfill a need to be seen and perform? If they were in it for the money, they sure picked a difficult field.

You are correct on all counts.  I asked her If it would fit her philosophy if I opened a business.
She  said "Not if you don't need it."

And how about the 100 people id have hired?  She went blank!

I got the gig!
Whewwwww.  I never heard from my connection, just the CD , casting director.

Well applying her rule, any of us who goes to work is depriving someone.  So, if you stay home and Mr XYZ gets the job, who's to say he isn't depriving someone even more needy.  Nahhh, fageddabouddit !
