Air Show @ Marine Corps Air Station Miramar
« on: October 03, 2009, 01:23:02 PM »
Yesterday morning a group of us guys drove down to San Diego to view the air show at MCAS Miramar.  When we arrived at Miramar it was sunny and warm and soon it was sunny and hot...,however, as the day progressed it became overcast as clouds came in off the ocean and the temperatue dropped and it became quite comfortable.  We even got a few sprinkles.  Here's my son and a fellow ponding friend in action:

The tarmac was extensive and had plenty of room for static displays of WWII aircraft as well as modern weapons of war:

The Marines performed a simulated ground and air attack:

The Harrier flew and here it is hovering some 30' above the ground:

This truck equipped with a very powerful jet engine was a fan favorite.  I forget how fast it blew down the runway but it really screamed:

The Canadian precision flying Snowbirds performed well for the crowd:

The Blue Angels were the last flying event of the day:

The Marines who were our hosts did a wonderful job.

Great pics!   Thanks.

I saw the Blue Angels at the Harrisburg International Airport in the mid-80's - very cool . . .

Wow Mikey, those are some AWESOME pics!  I love loud aircraft and airshows!!  You would love the Wright-Patterson Aircraft Museum here in Dayton along with the airshow in July.  Thanks for sharing those wonderful pictures!   O0

Wonderful pics............love to watch the planes fly. One year we went to the hydroplane races during Sea-fair in Seattle and they had a Harrier jet and the Blue Angels, Fat Albert and a few others flying. They were all terrific.

Great pictures Mikey. I got to go to the Wright Pat Museum when we were in ohio but it is dark in the and my camera's flash wasn't good enough. Enjoyed the pictures.

Sounds like a great day was had. I haven't been to one of those in too long.

I dp particularly remember the Harrier Jump Jet - stopping in midair, then turning to face us spectators, and just hovering there. Very menacing.

The last show I saw was in Orange County (many years ago now ) - El Toro?

Nice pics,

Cheers,

Mike

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?
