another koi gone
« on: November 18, 2009, 08:34:03 PM »
:(  I'm so sad.  :'( I lost another koi. This one was younger and one that I had purchased and not inherited.  He was all white and shimmery (I don't know what those are called). One day he just had a ton of ulcers all over him, I tried to catch him to medicate him and couldn't, the next day he was belly up.  The parameters are all fine. Anyone have any idea what could have caused the ulcers? It's my 2nd koi in about 6 weeks, before that I haven't lost any in 4.5 years.  :'(

Sorry to hear that.    :'(
I'm no expert, all I have to say is from my pond experience.  Unfortunately your new fish may have been carrying a disease or it may have caught something from the oldies in your pond that it is not immune to certain "schtuff".

Either way I have had fish die with all the care I could give them before.  Now I buy from a reputable clean dealer and make sure the fish is really really healthy looking before even bringing it home to the QT pond.  Only my DD makes me release the fish from QT earlier than I should. So far since the early ugly days long ago I've been doing A ok.

Thanks, Annette!
I would suspect that, but my "new" fish has been here for 3 years. I think it was just a fluke.  Makes me sad though.
