Broken rods in car doors are very common and half the guys won't admit it.  They would bring the rod in and ask for a replacement.  We would say, I see red paint on the break, do you have a red car?
One manufacturer would replace the rod anyway.
WE often just replaced the tip top and the dude now had  a shorter rod.  If the break were low enough we would put a ferrule in and he now had a 2 piece rod.
