I cringe when I read some of the things people post on FB.  I mean, really personal, embarassing things... :P  I've even seen some people I know post addresses and phone numbers..  :o  I don't post much on people's 'walls', if I have something to say to them, I usually send them a message via FB, that way, it's private.

I too am surprised how many folks post their date of birth and home address.  Shoot, why not go ahead and post your SS# as well.....  sheesh.....

How is posting an address and phone number on FB any different than having it listed in the white pages?

It's odd, when I discovered forums on the internet, I wondered why people used made up names. Someone said it was for security. But on FB, everybody uses their real names. I don't twitter or any other ones but I suspect it's the same there.

Mayybe what multiplies the danger, is that our name and address are coupled with lots of other personal information on FB. One thing nice on FB though is that I can decide who I want to read/see my information, everybody, friends, or friends of friends.

In the white pages you can have a listing without address.

I know many people do not post their real birthday on FB.
Its a nutty place. I'm careful about what I post there.
We recently had a problem with the spouse of one of the members of the fire dept. posting information about an EMS incident on FB.
She just wasn't thinking and was posting about him working this call to some of her contacts and some of the other dept. members just happened to catch it in their feed. BIG NO-NO!!!
This has actually happened twice now in the last year. The other time it was one of the members kids. ::)
I use FB mostly for the animal rescue networking but even the scammers are plentiful amongst them.

I know I don't have to list my address in the phone book. I don't have to list the number either but have done both for 40 years and was never had a reason not to.
