Seed free....
« on: January 09, 2011, 04:04:38 PM »
This afternoon I picked 3 tangelos from our tree, one for me, one for the fetching Mrs. Mikey and one for later.  My wife often complains that sometimes the tangelos have seeds.  She's correct, sometimes a few seeds, sometimes no seeds and sometimes lots of seeds.  So I held all three tangelos in front of her and allowed her to pick.

As I was finishing up eating mine I yelled to her in the other room that my tangelo had no seeds.  "Oh goody, hopefully mine will be the same" she said.  Several minutes later she complained that I had tricked her.  Her tangelo had 20+ seeds.....

What can I say......

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.

She got a new laptop for Christmas.......and that afternoon our DSL and phone went down.  A woman, a new laptop and no Internet is NOT a good combination....  I'm fortunate in that the phone guy FINALLY arrived today to fix the lines and we now once again have Internet.  She's pretty much a happy camper and I think she has forgotten all about the tangelo from He!!.   ;D

The current "Cooking Light" magazine has a feature on tangerines.  There are three types...

Satsumas, which are sweet
Tangelos, which are tangy
and
Clementines, which have no seeds.

Maybe your tree swings both ways.   :D

Within seed-spitting distance of my tangelo is a valencia orange, meyer lemon and mandarin orange.  I think there may be some cross-pollination going on.....

That sounds so good. My mouth is watering just reading about them.
