bye bye to all my babies :(
« on: March 20, 2011, 05:54:11 PM »
I'm soooo sad!for the past 3 weeks we started  having really good weather here in NC so I decide to clean up the pond and remove my heater and then we had a 30º night and when I check my pond all my babies were belly up :( I'm soooo sad is not even funny! I had 7 of my 12 fish left and because of the change of temp they all die (the other were taken by a bird) so now I have a water fountain in my backyard so sad! That day I ran to petco to have my water tested to make sure that what I was looking on my strips was ok.  the water quality was great, and she told me that was a cold shock.  :'(

Sorry to hear that. I guess we all need to remember that even though we are having a warm spell, freezing night can still occur.

Hmmm, you said you removed the heater. Was it actually a heater to change the temp of the water or was it just to keep a hole in the ice. I'm in Michigan and my fish survive the winters with only a floating deicer.

yes it was the floating deicer but it was keeping the temp stable:( or so I think! well my story keeps getting better.  two days ago I was working on cleaning my pond and painting it again (the out side, mine is an above gound pond made of 4x4's ) to get it nice and preaty for my new kids! and I decide to empty it so I can cleane it better (the water was too green and nasty) and for my surprice I found a survivor! One kalico KOI was till swiming around! I was soooo happy and sooo sad at the sam time!! I took him about with half pond water and half clean and condition water and now he is leaving inside of my house until I can get the pond stable again maybe by the end of this week! the temps  in here have been brutal for this time of the year! he seems to be happy but he is not eating in that bucket! Hopefully he will be ok!!
Now I have another question does anyone have this new 4in 1 pond uv filter my nd if so what do you think about it?? I have the Pressuarized biological UV POnd Filter with a 330  pond pump that I'm thinking on selling to get that other one, but I will like some feedback first My pond is about 300 gallons no more than that maybe less :)
