Trash to Treasure
« on: May 21, 2011, 11:06:59 AM »
Years ago, we scavenged around and collected old cast iron register grates from buildings being torn down or remodeled.  I wish I had "before" pics because they were in sad shape.  We have been cleaning them up this week.  The collection of four reminds me of quilt blocks, they are at our door that leads from the kitchen to the deck.  The bigger one is at the garage side door.  We still have an even bigger one that we are afraid to hang, so have decided to make a table out of it.  It was in the floor of the viewing room of a funeral home.  I'll post pics later when we get it done.

Didn't cost a thing, except for some black spray paint...........I love them.  o(:-)

I love them too Karen, what a great idea!  We still have some of those old floor grates in use in our home.  Should we ever have to take them out I know what we'll do with them.

What a wonderful idea!  Something else for me to look out for now... ;)  They look beautiful hanging on your brick wall too!   :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes that kind of thing.  (or takes years to finally do something with them.  :D )  Those look spectacular hung on your brick wall.

I have a half dozen or so iron doors from cast iron stoves & furnaces, or doors to coal bins.  So decorative they were, back in those days.  I have'nt figured out what to do with them. ... don't want to put them outside due to rust, and I'm afraid they're too heavy to hang indoors - don't want one falling and bopping someone on the head.  For now, I just lean them against the wall and enjoy them that way.
