58 blooms
« on: June 09, 2011, 02:17:44 PM »
Call me strange, but I like to count how many lily blooms each day  {:-P;;

10 years ago I bought this bog plant called Pink Bells not knowing it drops seeds & grows just fine in the dry dirt.

Kat I like to do the same.  But.... it looks beautiful!!!!  How often are you pruning pads?  What is the name of the lily with the varigated leaves and purple bloom?

Looks great, as always, Kat.  I think I'll have you beat by the end of the season, though!   ;D

Thanks.  I haven't crawled into the big pond to read the name tag on the purple with patterned pads.  It may be new from last year as I don't recall which one is it right off.  Yellowed pads get pinched when I've got the time & ambition.  I HATE having my big pond caged in & just may end up not keeping goldfish in it next year but they keep most of the string algae away.  *%#@^ HERON --wish it would just go away.  It flew over today making nasty noises at me.

Jon--try squeezing all those lilies of yours into my limited space, LOL.  Yes, you'll have more blooms & it will be a wonderful sight to see.  O0

Last year I had over 100 blooms, so #59 isn't too far away considering our temps & how the tropicals love the heat  ;)

Kat is this a hobbie?

We have netted the ponds also but only the top is netted not the sides.  Does the bird get into your pond through
 the side of the pond?

With this heat the lilies are going nuts.  Your buds are huge and your blooms beautiful!

Looking Good!  O0
My tropicals are still behind, despite being in Florida, but a couple of them that were overwintered have managed to eek out a bloom or two.
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

You actually count blooms! ….I take it a step further and try to beat my record of number of blooms open on one plant. Tough year though last week golf ball sized and larger hail storm tore them all up.

Very pretty.

I'm a counter too, but I don't have to go very high when counting my lily blooms.

I was wondering about the pink bells too.  I've never seen them before.  I suppose it wouldn't make it through our winters.  :'(

The purple with the great looking pads is MIDNIGHT SERENADE.  Craig's hybrids are beautiful, aren't they?

Pink Bells 'Chi Chi'.  Don't know what the zone tolerance is for it but it comes back every year from the roots plus it drops bunches of seed.  When the seed pods are dry they pop open when water hits them.  I'll break off branches, stick them in water or a bog pot (they will be wilted for about 3-4 weeks) and they'll eventually grow roots.  It will grow everywhere from seeds as I've found sprouts of it quite a distance away from the main colony & it gets 3-4 feet tall.
