Dragonflys
« on: June 18, 2011, 08:23:34 AM »
I am pretty sure this is supposed to be one of the pretty pale blue Dragonflys. Looks like it didnt morph right! Has the pale blue tip on the tail and very small folded back wings, but the odd thing is it could FLY!!
Its been unusually Hot here so maybe it morphed to soon??  We do have some pale blue ones flying arround, but it was too windy to get a good photo with my Iphone this morning.

These large orange ones you can walk right up to and pick up!! Not afraid of anything!

What do they call the others...Damselfly?  They hold their wings folded back. We have plenty of them. But this one just was not fully formed right. Large Body and small wings, with a touch of color on its tail tip.

The Orange one in the Photo is about the size of my hand 4-5 inch wingspan.
There is one big Orange Dragonfly that comes every morning with one wing broken - I have seen HER all week dipping. This Heat is taking its toll on them!!

There used to be a lady on the pond forums named GoNative.  She was a dragon/damselfly expert, and so sweet.  She was not well, and passed away a few years back.  I sure miss her bright spirit but am glad we got to share her love of ponding and her wealth of knowledge.
The large red one may be called a pond hawk.  Not sure.  For years we have mostly had the little blue opr green damselflies.  I get so excited when we get a big dragonfly here!!
