I can just about pet my Turtles if I were so inclined
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:39:54 PM »
It took a few tears for them to be less skittish (one still is) now I tap them on the head with a small net, even pick them up with it!  They seem unconcerned.  THey have at last, realized I am the guy who feeds them!
The little guy lists to one side, but is frisky and fun.  He came from a shelter.  Maybe T Mike knows why?
Bottom pic is a few grouped waiting for food.
The stuff on the left is Romaine Lettuce, they like it as do the fish!

Well, I know I'd be petting them and picking them up -- but that's just what I do.  I talk to all my animals too:  cats, dogs, fish, baby calves, big steers...they expect it and I think they know what I'm saying!   lol  Great pics of the turtles!

My turtles aren't afraid of me but I'm afraid of losing a finger or two!  :o  It's great that your turtles AND fish like lettuce.  In my ponds the fish prefer plants they're not suppose to munch on when there is fresh greens I feed them  ::)

The more I see your turtle pictures, the more I want one.   {:-P;;  Looks like they really enjoy the swim and fresh lettuce. ;D  Wish I know how my shelties will react to them when I put one in the pond.  Plus we have cold winter here too, that's another worry.

PS - The new sheltie I adopted from the rescue group last Nov has killed 1 small snake and 2 baby birds that I know of; there might be others   :-\.  This is why I hesitate getting a turtle. {nono}

They thrive in the Northeast so cold will not hurt them.  Theresa once told us that the "Brumate" as opposed to Hibernate.  Look it up because I have not! ::)
My pal's dog has tried to touch one with his paw, but that was it.
Of course you can find out by trying it!  Turtles have survived for thousands of years.

Good luck!

Thanks Jerry.  I will definitely check it out.  It will be fun to have a turtle around the pond.   @O@

Kuan, sounds like you have a sheltie/mongoose mix! ;D
Jerry, don't the turtles go after the fish?

Kathy, you are right about my shelties being part mongoose.   lol

His name is Geordi.  He was the one who killed the snake and baby birds.

Forrest and Geordi.  Forrest is a sweetheart.  He is the mellow one.   :)
