The petiole on this pad is oval not round. It looks like two pads did not completely separate.  I need to pull the pot from the pond to see if anything looks different.

Dan, that "bug" is a little bee and will pollinate your water lilies or cross pollinate them. Watch for seed pods if you are not dead-heading your lilies.
