Multiple blooms (new pics added continued)
« on: July 17, 2011, 02:56:26 PM »
I was gone today to see the little GD.  When I got home it appears that the other GDs Colorado had 10 blooms in a single pot.  I will admit that I often plant 3 or 4 tubers per dishpan though.  I'll try to get pics tomorrow.  It is so hot that everything had closed up by the time we got home.

Sue, that little white Odorata bloomed Friday but it didn't stay open long enough nor did it open all the way for me to get a pic of it.
Happy ponding,

I like multiple blooms so I over plant and pinch pads as soon as they show a bit of yellow (when I have time).  I have two pots of some of the varieties.  I pull the pots the first of each month and clean up the old growth and blooms and refertilize.  September will be the last time I feed for the year.  I am retired so I have time to do the maintance.

This year I am using 5g Aquatic-Tabs 10-20-10.  I like the results I'm seeing so far.  I used bottom half bagged topsoil covered with top half plain kitty litter and egg sized rocks.  The unfiltered tanks do have brownish water, but the fish don't seem to mind.  I put 3 or 4 tubers in a 3 or 4 gallon dishpan (boy they can get heavy).  If I do not pinch pads...I will have 100% coverage.  Some years I use all kitty litter and I divide every year.

I had to buy an air pump for the unfiltered tanks because we have set record high temps and the fish/skeeter patrol were gasping.  I am losing about 1/2" water every day.

Thanks for posting your recipe for success.  I always like to see what others do to care for their lilies especially other Texans.  I have used the aquatic soil that is like kitty litter. Recently I tried oil dri from Walmart which is just like kitty litter. When I called the company to ask about the oil dri I recieved a call back from Tidy Cat and he said it was the same thing. I think 25 lbs cost under $4.00.  I was afraid to use it but so far so good.

Very nice blooms. I guess we can be glad that the heat has made our lilies happy!

Your lilies look amazing even in the heat!  They really are beautiful and thriving, I would say you definitely have a wet thumb!   8)

Wow, really pretty! I wish my lilies were that happy.  O0 My pink ribbon has bloomed once, that's it.  :-\ It doesn't have any buds coming either. Many of my lilies are just not doing well this year and not blooming. :(

@O@  The Pink Ribbon I just couldn't mess with this morning  o(:-)

The unknown tropical...there are 4 tubers in a long skinny flower pot.

My new KOS...it has had multiple blooms after the first bud was three days old.

This white provided it's own shade.

I am excited I just saw a bud on the Pink Ribbon I purchased from Kat.

I would not want to disturb that plant either.   :)
