I bought a couple recently just to see how they would do. One was marked as an Attraction and it bloomed today. It is definately an Attraction. So my 2 cents worth is....if you get them at a decent price it's worth the try.

  How long did it take from time of planting to time of padding out, and then blooming?

I'm kinda jazzed 'cause I've now got three $1.75 lily starts from PetSmart.  I only allow yellow or purple flowers in my yard, but I got so excited about the lilies that I went and bought pink and orange, too.  I'm copying many folks here and putting them in a smallish tub, rather than my koi pond.

Probably about 5 weeks or so. We had to repair a leak in our liner and I know I placed them in the pond right about that time. I checked my post about the leak and it was made on July 2. They got pads in maybe 2 weeks probably.
I found the coolest dark blue plastic buckets at our dollar store. They're about 12" square and about 6" deep and have handles on the side. I planted them in those.
Shortly after I noticed the bloom today it started raining like mad so couldn't get a pic. I will tomorrow if I can.
