What a difference a "cloud" makes
« on: August 23, 2011, 01:01:35 PM »
@O@  This afternoon is cloudy with a bit of lightening and thunder.  We have had a few sprinkles.  (not enough to sprinkle down the ironing yet)

I decided to take a few pick of the lily tanks.

We've been so hot...they are just now starting to bloom again.

Lookin good, Sue. I think we got your heat. 110-115 heat index all this week. We can't hope for cool weather because cold will be right behind it.

Hi Sue,
Can you give us some of the names of your lovelies in those tanks? It looks like there are a few lotus too?
Thanks for the pictures :)

Sue, we've had the same thing...Sky will darken, wind will pick up, leaves will twist and turn - but no rain.  It all passes over us.  I just read in the paper that they are prediciting the drought will last through 2012!

We need rain.  But temperature wise, I'm with Gary.  Keep it warm, hot, I don't care - just don't bring on the winter!

Pretty pretty blooms.

Sue, lovely waterlilies.   O0  Glad you had break in term of heat.  Wish you have more rain than just sprinkles.  TX needs it bad.  It was cloudy here on Monday with some sprinkles off and on but yesterday was hot. Broke the record of 105F (we hit 106F yesterday).  So far we have had 45 days of 100F+ this summer.  We may shatter another record today.  Our all time record is 50 days of 100F+ back in 1936.  We may come close to it or break it.

I love how your waterlilies in the tanks but looks difficult to pull spent flowers and leaves from them though.  Like how you filter the water in the first pic.   @O@

Thanks everybody, I do enjoy it.

#1  the big tank with filter...Pink Ribbon and ArcEnCeil
Not blooming is suppose to be a Mayla and a pale pink unknown.

#2  Perry's Baby Red, Texas Dawn, small white Odorata and an unknown yellow

#3  all Colorado...my favorite best bloomer

#4  probably Red Attraction, an unknown white and 3 tropicals
maybe Southern Charm, an unknown and King of Siam

#5  Perry's Orange Sunset (hubby even thinks it's the color of a sunset) and 3 different unknown yellows (one is probably a cross of the other two)

I have no lotus...we have decided the humidity is too low.

Actually it is very easy to keep the pads and spent blooms pinched when I have the time to do it.

In July we had four days less than 100*...2 @ 99* one 98* and one 95*.

We have been cooler than some places and warmer than others  51 days @ 100* Or better.  Hottest was 113* on June 26th

We were a pleasant 83* on August 10th.

The watering tanks are beautiful!  The colors are great.  With all your heat you must be refilling the water everyday.

What is the plant in the 4th photo, upper left?

I think touching the tank is Lizard's Tail and the bushy one in front of that is Mare's Tail and a touch of Parrot's Feather.

They are planted in pots sitting on a milk crate.  Wet feet...dry ankles.

I usually top off the tanks every second night adding about an onch of fresh water.  I water my pots at the same time.

often see on news about weather in [i assume] your area . something like 50 days in a row over 100 degrees and ,as you've said , no rain . i truly feel for you i don't like it in the 80 degree days and i love rain [to a point] . saw a dust cloud on news that i think was 1000 feet high it was in arizona and i really think it was one of the most impressive things i've ever seen . . .peace
