Visit to New Orleans
« on: November 17, 2011, 09:11:10 AM »
My  wife is an art teacher at East St John High School. She asked to come as a chaperon for her art class on their field trip to the New Orleans Museum of Art.  I have some photos from there. After I left NOMA, I drove down Esplanade Ave. toward the French Quarter to visit American Aquatic gardens. I had a question about what turned out to be "BullsEye".  I asked an employee of AAG if he knew the name of the lily. He did not know but said Rich has just arrived and proceeded to introduce me to Mr Sacher.  Rich was kind enough to spend an hour and a half talking to me about waterlilies.

Shooting Star viviping.

The three leaves are the vivip produced on a flower of Wood's Blue Goodess. I seems to have rooted and is producing new growth. 90 deg water.

Did I not introduce you to Rich when we met up at AAG years ago? Now I do not remember if he was there or not, I remember giving a tour to you and your wife and a member here from Shreveport. Rich is a great friend of mine and a wealth f knowledge on all things aquatic.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Sean

Beautiful photos of fat lilies! I can't believe the water is so warm!  I suppose that's why the lilies are still budding.  Lucky you to meet Mr Sacher and you most likely left with a wealth of knowledge to boot!  Thank you for sharing your adventure to the AA Gardens and New Orleans.

Thanks everyone. Sean, you did introduce me to Rich but with everyone he deals with on a regular basis he would probably not have remembered the visit. It was very interesting to see some of his aussy crosses.  Also some of the other lilies he's growing out.

wow  what a lot of photos!

I passed on a chance to go to N.O. this fall, for the national paperhangers' convention, due to work and money.  Wish I could have gone.  Now I know I missed out on more than business fraternizing.

I can't believe that place is smack in the middle of the city.   It's so large with so much acreage - or should I say pondage?   ;)

Marie, I saw photos and saw the tubers of the crosses since he has harvested the tubers already.  He has a large handful of the pink Ima tubers he's is working with now.   I saw his "high" tech seed starter too. Anecphya  seed seem boulder like compared to Brachyceras seed. I sa a photo of the new FAN lily that I can't remember the name . Think KOS but pink. It will be interesting next year to see some mountain waterliles at AAG.

Julles, you missed a fun trip to NOLA.  AAG is a treasure for lily freaks like us. Rich also has lilies displayed in the City Park Botanical Garden that is a short walk from NOMA. NOMA is an outstanding museum. Frenchman street is the happening place for live music. Great restaurants  everywhere.

Nice photos, I have stopped in to see Rich a few times and he's always willing to talk about lilies.  I remember I brought my photo flash drive and we went through pics for at least an hour or so.  He was even interested in a few of the photos, which I was excited to give him especially from my amateur skills that pales to Sean and Louis.  He indicated to me a while back he had lost Mahogoney Rose, but one of the pics looks similar.

Speaking about Louis is he still around?  I miss his photography skills, dry humor, and posts.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Enjoyed the pics, Magoo.   Always inspiring to see.   I loved the pond where you could see the house or building beside it.   I am considering something like.
