Had the Epidural today...scary but....
« on: November 22, 2011, 01:33:51 PM »
Nothing to it, really.
The Dr asked if i was ok three times, I said yes each time. It was done.  I feel normal except for the Egg Nog!
I figured I deserved a treat! :D

I'm glad it went well Jerry.  When you mentioned in an earlier thread you were going to have an epidural I held my tongue as I didn't wish to cause unneeded anxiety.  The Fetching One had an epidural about ten years ago and the doctor nicked a nerve causing her extreme pain for several days and lots of discomfort for the next couple of years.  The worse part was the doctor's attitude about his botched procedure.  He was dismissive, unsympathetic and didn't offer to write her a prescription for pain medication after the procedure.  I imagine it must have made the folks in the waiting room have second thoughts when the Fetching One came out with tears rolling down her cheeks.....  She told her primary care physician about the incident and he removed that doctor from his referral list....

Glad you enjoyed some comfort food afterwards too....  O0

I didn't even know you were pregnant, Jerry!

okay, sorry.  The only time I've heard epidural is on TV when a hormonal woman is about to give birth.  What do I know?

glad it went well for you... too bad the Fetching Mrs. Mikey didn't have such luck!
I'm broke and can't afford to pay attention, so you might have to lend me an ear.

It may not be effective. Fingers crossed. It takes 4 or 5 days to know of there is a difference.

If I use spell check I get booted! So I assume I meant scared, not sacred, of course.
I will have a computer whiz ou in a few days.  I can't delete files either. Corrupted disc!
Hopfully it's all fixable.

I still need the whiz, but did fix a few issues myself. AOL does have a "Quick Fix" program.  It did do a lot of good.

I have been taking my Mom for the epidurals for her back.  She had one about a month ago that didn't help much so we went back for another this past Monday.  She always has such great hopes that it will cure her problem.  On Wednesday she "thought" she was so much better and was asking about taking a little trip.  Yesterday, things weren't so good.

I think we will be looking for another doctor.  I'm not too impressed with this one. Among other things, I asked him twice "how many of these and how often can you get them?"  He wouldn't give me an answer.  He is wanting to put one in her hip and she wants to go back to the other doctor for shots in both of her knees again.  I feel like there is no end.

Karen: My internet research shows that the success seems to vary a lot.  I am not sure why.  I do know they have to hit the right spot. Mine was done as they watched through an x ray device.  My son -in- law has had a few, zero success.  It may relate to the type of problem it is?
I Casually mentioned it to another DR. He commented it is  a series.  I read it lasts a few weeks I also read every 6 months it had to be done!  So who knows???  I do go back ion December for a follow up.  What the heck is that?
I can picture it now... Me" hello", DR. "How do you feel?"  Me; "Good." DR ok "goodbye."
Lawyers call it a "fee exercise", but a DR can be sued if they falied to do all the due dilligence.
My conclousion?  I have none. :'(

So far so good for me. I am grateful, I limped for 6 months!!

The Fetching One was about to undergo an endoscopic procedure a few months back and the doctor asked if she wanted a pain block while he was in there.  I asked what it entailed and he explained and said it may work immediately in relieving her pain, it may start working in several days and it may not work at all....  At least he was honest.

Oh, it didn't work at all.....
