May Day blooms
« on: May 02, 2012, 06:49:42 AM »
;)  Nothing to get excited about though.

I really thinned out my pots this spring.  I usually have four tubers per pot and promiseded myself last summer that I'd cut back to two and I did.

Hardly any pads yet and the blooms were punny looking, but they are at least two weeks early for us.  The water is still pretty cold for all the warm days we've had also.  I do have more string algae than usual. but it is beginning to turn loose and float.

I see more buds poking up their little heads, maybe there will be something picture worthy soon.

Hi Sue

Still working on mine also.  I just could not get the get up and go as in the past.  I too am not putting more than just a couple in a pot.  Tropicals are get their own big pot.  Everything seemed heavier than last year maybe I am just a year older.  :D  I am looking forward to you posting your pictures this year.

I divided and repotted a few weeks ago, and pretty shortly after I had blooms.  I had SIX blooms on one purple lily last week.  I also have three on a new mini yellow I got at Nelson's in April.

My hawthorne is still chugging along with a few blooms, but my night bloomer has leaves down at the pot level but is taking its sweet time about getting them up to  the surface.  And my Perry's Baby Red has pads but no sign of blooms yet.

Guess it's still too cool for some of them.

I am planning to go on the Dallas Pond Tour, in June.  FORTY ponds, usually, on their tour!!

We have 58 ponds on tour this July. We have had as many as 70 before. But we are a big Water Garden Society. I think we have dropped to 770 members from 1100.

I think there might be another pond or two in our county, not sure though.
