recently i picked up one of those assortment packs from petsmart on sale. it had 2 hardy WL, an iris and a dwarf cattail. i put the iris and the cattail down in a small plastic pot - still in their prepackaged containers and growing medium. yesterday i found the top of the water looking like this -

as far as i'm concerned that was worth the whole $8 i paid for the assortment!! however, i must say that i am glad i didn't put them directly into the pond!  :o

Ok, I'm willing to admit that I saw the sperm too when I first looked at it.  It also looks like that houseplant with the little balls for leaves think they call it 'string of pearls' and I think it's a hoya.  I've been looking for one for years without any luck, so they must not grow them anymore, at least around here.

It's the coolest algae bloom I've ever seen!  Glad you shared it with us, not sure I would have been willing to admit to creating that mess.
