Gardenweb.com has a whole forum about it. I've never been inclined to try it myself, but I lean more towards tropicals.

If you think about it, when plants go to seed they do it in fall. Not early spring. So, it does make sense that you can sow seeds in winter.

I have been winter sowing for several years and highly recommend it . The plants are so much healthier than those grown under lights and doing it throughout the winter months sure reduces the doldrums.I can't say enough good things about it...hope you give it a try. Kareen
