Cannas?
« on: May 10, 2013, 12:15:40 PM »
Can all cannas be used as a marginal plant in a pond?
If so, how deep do they need to be planted?

I have used 'regular' cannas in my pond before.  I was advised to have 'wet feet, but dry ankles'...it worked for me.

I wash all the dirt off and plant them in my pea gravel bog and my pea gravel filled shelves. They flourish.

Thanks for the replies.
Looks like I'll be planting some cannas in the pond.

I have planted my cannas like Sue and Reddad.  Both ways did well.  Since I'm a lazy ponder I pack the bareroots into a plastic water plant colander basket and tie it down in the shallow end of the pond.  Couldn't find shots of the potted cannas like this but know they grew tall and flowered like crazy.  I recently rearranged the plants in this pond and wintered the cannas in a 25 gallon bucket with just the rain water it receives during the winter (and last week!)
