Lotus: post-bloom #1; #2 on the way
« on: September 05, 2014, 07:14:02 PM »
The first lotus bloom has dropped its petals and the pod is now visible.  The second bud is getting fatter.  Still have warm days in the forecast so I hope more blooms will follow.  The fourth bud is now above the leaves.

I saw matherfish's post about his lotus still blooming....today I found bud #3 in bloom for my lotus.  Bud #2 seemed to have some trouble opening up all of the way though it is possible it happened when I didn't notice it.  We had some windy weather and I noticed the petals got blown off so maybe that was a factor.  The pot is definitely getting more shade now...I still have one more bud that I hope will bloom.

Woo Hoo! Bud #4 made it to the blooming stage just before the return of the rain.  This one seemed to have more scent than #3.  Do all lotus smell the same or do they differ depending upon the variety of flower?

I am including a photo of the pod from the first bloom.  I read that people will eat the seeds when they are ripe.  Has anyone tried them?  (I have had trouble posting more than one photo in a message which is why I did this one separately from my previous response.)
