Parrot's feather question
« on: October 26, 2015, 01:17:15 PM »
I got a large bunch of parrot's feather from a guy who took my extra goldfish last month.  He has two large earth ponds on his property and the parrot's feather covers the banks.

I potted it in gravel and have it on the shelf around my pond.  Is it OK to let it freeze over the winter?  Same question about my water celery.

TIA

I just let it float and it seems to be fine over the winter both in zone 6 (Philly area) and my current zone 7a in the Northern Neck of Virginia.

I'm in zone 5 and it never makes it through the winter.

Thanks Bob_A.

I'm in zone 6-b, but the last two winters here have been especially brutal.

I drop mine down about 18 inches and it has survived so far here in zone 6.  I've never frozen that deep...yet.

I have left my parrots feather in my vegetative pond and in my bog pond and it has had no problems surviving, even with lart year's colder than usual winter. The freezing did not seem to bother it.

Hi LeAnne, I hope things are going well for you in the Northwest.  Perhaps we need another NW pond party? Not sure who would host since Maryvonne went back to Vancouver Island, maybe Sean?

Cheers,

Gary

I am always happy to host a pond party.
Maryvonne and Pete might still be here in Surrey. Last I heard the plans to move to the island were delayed I could be wrong however. I have not heard from her in a while.

Cheers,
Sean

Bob doesn't have a passport. It has been too long since we've been to Canada.

Hey Sean and LeeAnne,

The offer sounds good Sean, I think we can also get a room at our timeshare for a get together, but not sure who can make it to Vancouver.  Last time we went straight to Uclulet via Tofino airport (boy that was a challenge), which was gorgeous.  LeeAnne maybe Bob can get a renewal on the passport? I'll send a note to Maryvonne, but I have not heard from her in a couple of years.
