What a sad ending, I had told my dh this story just last night.  I had hoped for a happier ending.   :'(

You really did get great shots of that deer...poor thing..... nature at its roughest.
I too have to say your pond is awesome and would love to see more photos. One question though ,how are you keeping the heron at bay with such a wide open pond?

Kareen, we're not!  :o Check out this picture.  We always have problems when we are gone on vacation and there is less activity around the pond.  This picture was taken in 2003.  When we got home from vacation last month, I made the comment that it looked like a lot of our goldfish were gone.  The next three afternoons a Kingfisher showed up.  Running out the door screaming like an idiot did the trick!  Thank goodness, the heron have never bothered our bigger koi.

I am usually a non violent person but those heron make me want to strangle!!!! &-) This year we mistakenly ordered a green net instead of a black net  ::)...ugly as sin but works great . I do wish there was another way though .....the natural look of your pond is so wonderful.   o(:-)

Back a few years ago, one winter day, i was flying the company helicopter to Havestraw, NY when i spotted a pack of dogs, not strays, but household dogs, chasing a deer out onto the Katona reservoir. the deer could not stand on the ice and went spread eagle and the dogs killed it for sport not food. that was very upsetting. deer do not have a chance on ice.
