New addition to the hot tub
« on: March 12, 2007, 01:40:54 PM »
I was a bad bad girl this weekend.  I know that I can't have any more fish in the hot tub until the new pond is built.  However, we went to visit a pond store and they had tanks full of little butterfly koi.  I wasn't going to buy anything but before I even opened my mouth, DH said "you can have 1."

Was I to argue?  I'm an obedient wife.   ;D   :o

Here's a pic of him saying hello to one of the shubbie bros.  He's just a pond mutt... plus I hear the kichi say that butterfly aren't really koi anyway.  ::)

Looks like he's floating in air.
And did you say that your an obediant wife? It's a pleasure to meet one ;) ;D

I don't plan on getting any koi, but a gold butterfly like that, I'd have to make an exception.

Yeah, I didn't plan it either.    {:-P;; {:-P;;

I do plan to have a 4' deep pond with bd and proper filtration so I don't feel that guilty getting him.   {:-P;;

He's beautiful!  It doesn't matter to me if they are mutts or not really koi, if I like them and they are beautiful to watch, who cares?  That one is truly a beauty!

I've tried Koi from our LFS 3 times lost them all. I'd love to have one like that but we just don't have good resources for buying them down here.

Hey, I've gotten my Koi from the local Meijer store. It's mainly a grocery/department store. So I bring the Koi home in my grocery bags. Who cares where you get your wet pets? I buy what I can afford and what I like. The kitchi people can spend what they want to spend and buy where they want to buy. And I never did understand the comment about the butterflies not being real Koi. It's like saying a certain breed of dog isn't a dog. I love the butterflies and am planning on getting some more this summer.

His beautiful! and how dare they insult our long fin! I will have to grab my last magazine, and quote it  about long fin Koi. I have one and I'm hopeing to get one or two more. But like Ester said. If were happy our fish are happy.

Beautiful fish. The only two koi that I have are longfins. After you've seen a longfin the others look chubby and ungainly IMHO. So whatever they are I love them.

well, that's a funny comment.  I question the authenticity of dogness on my basenji!  {:-P;; I swear he is more cat than dog.  So it would figure I would get a less-than-koi koi.   :o

I find the butterflies so graceful and beautiful.  I don't know why they are considered second class citizens with the kichi.   :cry:

Authenticity of dogness?  lol
    Good one!  O0
Know why the less than koi are considered second class citizens?
You can't find one for thousands and thousands of dollars :)
Edit: Well, after going to look at longfins on the web I guess you can find them for thousands and thousands of dollars.  ::)

He is beautiful.  I have two butterfly koi, both are dark in color and don't show up very well, I would love to find some yellow or white ones that are not too pricey.  I won't spend a lot on fish because the herons and kingfishers are regular visitors.

I've bought them from Meijers, shoot they give a 7 day guarantee on them.  So, put them in quarentine and if anything happens during the first 7 days, I can get my money back.

I've also, bought them pet stores, pond stores etc.  Just where ever I see one I like, and looks healthy.

 I know they're just mutts, but if I didn't like them I wouldn't have bought them.  Sure its probably nice to own the expensive ones if you can afford it.  But, the way I see it....mine swim just like the expensive ones, they eat just like the expensive ones, they are colorful just like the expensive ones and they add enjoyment to the pond, yes, just like the expensive ones.

And if something does happen to go wrong, like one bellying up.  Or a heron, or anything. I've only lost 5-10 dollars instead of 100 plus dollars.

And butterflies not being Koi  :doh: they sure look like it to me, except for the flowy fins.  I think yours is beautiful, and I hope you get alot of pleasure out of him in years to come.  I love my butterflies.
Kim
