Filtration

I am 99% sure that I am going to build the skippy filter, I have read their site many, many times and feel confident this is the way I am going to go.

I was close to filling in my pond but then I discovered "Skippy"  The system is easy and so forgiving!

I was pretty much a newbie in 2003 when we put our Skippy in and do not regret it ever.

We just put one in for Cindi last summer and it seems to be working fine for her too. If I remember right, they used the instructions for the plumbing from Gene's site at Koi Village.  http://www.koiclay.com/diy/pg1.htm

Gene sells the stainless steel spillway that is made specifically for the Rubbermaid stock tank. We used it and it is perfect. Cindi got it from him too along with the grids. They cut them to fit. They called a  poly spacer. http://www.koivillage.com/filtration/diy_filter.html

Yep I used the design from Gene's site because of the awesome pictures he provided.  Even with the pictures we hit a few bumps, but good old Dad came to the rescue when it came to the plumbing end of it all!   :)

Just for the heck of it, go take a look at my filter design using 55 gallon plastic drums.  It can accomodate both gravity fed and pump fed filter systems.  see it at http://www.gardenendeavors.com/rack/web8.html

How small? You can use the same concept with any container. My first bio filter was a 5 gallon bucket. Here's a link to a small filter.  http://rodandjenn2.home.mchsi.com/Adam_s_Filter/adam_s_filter.html
