March Fades & April Blooms
« on: April 01, 2007, 02:15:00 PM »
Here are some pix I took today and a few from yesterday.
I will put up quite a few pix. I'll let them speak for themselves.
Already up to 95 in the greenhouse. Time to pull down the sides... I thought I might leave it up all summer... but Whew!!! Too steamy.

Oh wow, beautiful, stunning, breath taking, gorgeous, lovely.  I can't think of just one word to describe them.

Love the close ups, and the dragonfly pics are awesome.  I collect anything I can get my hands on with dragonflies.

It's too warm here for tulips to be easy. We would have to dig them all up and refrigerate them to make them bloom. Too much work for me. That is why I grow Louisiana Iris instead. It is a native to my area and loves our climate. They have a short blooming window but when they begin to pop I have more colors of the rainbow than a bag of "skittles" candy.

OOOOOH!!!!! :D
Awesome pix. @O@
Can't pick a fave, but that last red iris,
and of course the Colorado, really stick in my mind.
And that tropical with the bee in flight....WAY cool! O0 8)

I used to have a deep red LA iris like that when I lived in NC.
Forgot to dig a piece of it up with me when we moved. >:(

Do you ever cut bouquets of iris?
With all those colors, I couldn't resist taking some inside. :)

Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

The wife knows they are hands off. I am trying crosses with those as well as the water lilies. I have about 2 dozen plants about 4" to 5" tall from last year's cross attempts. Once I get my handle on a few then she might be able to bring some in.

I'm not an ogre though. I do grow stargazers and assorted asiatic lilies for her to bring inside for the fragrance. She just has to be patient through the spring. The asiatics don't start blooming until early summer. I actually have about 6 new varieties in the backyard in bags that I need to get in the ground if I ever get a day off. More asiatics and some tango lilies. Very dark and highly mottled.

Kay, thanks for the compliment. Sometimes I get no response and I wonder if I am wastimg my time and Sean's bandwidth when no one makes any comments.

I try to minimize the file size but I wonder if the amount of pictures discourages those on dial up connections to check out my posts.

Nice Iris's.  When I moved into this house, there was a little ole man next door.  He gave me a start of each Iris's he had.  Like you, many many colors.  I kept them for years, then I dug them to divide them and never planted them back.  I should be kicked.

Tim, don't you stop posting pictures of your gorgeous plants! I think so many are just so busy that they stop in for a beautiful flower fix and then jump on to the next thing on the list and we forget to add our appreciation for the time and effort it takes to post them. I know the pictures here brighten my day and I appreciate them. I know others do too even if they don't say so.  o(:-)

Thanks Barb. Glad they appealed to you.

Bonnie, I jumped to high speed the minute it became available and I could never go back. However there is a trick I used on dial up to make surfing photo intensive sites easier. If you know a page will probably open with a lot of pictures, right click it's link and open in a new tab if you have the latest version of Internet Explorer or right click it's link and open in a new window. That way you can continue to read and check out other info, posts, sites while the pictures download in the background as it were. Another reason this helps is that instead of going back a page and waiting for it to reload, you can just close the current one you are looking at and go to the previous without any wait time.

Even on a cable modem I always have 5 or 10 windows or tabs open. I really don't like to wait for things.  {nono}
