I just divided my lotuses!- BUMPED
« on: April 01, 2007, 10:07:59 AM »
**UPDATE**
I still have some tubers left, mostly Mrs. Perry Slocum. I'd like to finish up the sale and have everything ready to ship on Monday.

If you're interested, please email me before Sunday night.

Thanks!  o(:-)
Laura W.

(original post below)

I have many good divisions of:

Mrs. Perry Slocum
Rosea Plena

Some of you may remember trading with me from the 'old' message board. I give great big divisions in very good condition.

Each of these tubers has 2-5 nodes and at least one actively growing tip, most have two or more growing tips.

$10 each tuber and $10 each parcel shipping. I use UPS ground (local only) or FedEx 2-Day air for shipping plants.

Alternatively, I am looking for dwarf or 'bowl' lotus tubers, and a good-sized true tetragona plant or tetragona seeds. The tetragonas that Swimming Jewel Joyce traded me a couple years back got destroyed by some animal that got into the pond last year. I think it was a muskrat :(

If you're interested please email me privately at: wepackship@snet.net

Another note-

I'm a 'newbie' on this site. I see a lot of icons and notes next to people's names. Like # of trades...how do I register those here?

Also in the past I just gave away my plants for free or for just postage. This is my first try at an outright sale.

If anyone has criticism/ feedback about my offer or my post, I would appreciate hearing from you.
I have a bunch more stuff to trade later this Spring and I don't want to look like a moron.

Thanks,
Laura W.

I don't know much of anything at all about lotuses.  Are they hardy?  Are yours small varieties, like dwarf, or bigger? I have a small 5' x 8' pond, and am looking for some pretty container plants for it.  Would my pond be big enough?  Do I winter the lotus indoors, say in the garage?  I am definitely interested if it doesn't get too large.   :)

Editing to say I'm afraid I will have to pass, I started a thread asking advice over which I should get.  I was advised to try a lily instead of a lotus, and Esther even offered to send me a baby.  Thank you anyway, though!

I got mine today too.  Beautiful, big and with 4 growing tips.  Really well wrapped.

This is my first time with a lotus and I read all the warnings about not breaking the growing tips.  I was really careful, really I was, but 2 of them broke off.  I'm hoping the other 2 will grow.  I couldn't bear to throw out the tuber with roots and looking so healthy so I planted the ones that broke along with the others.  Is there any chance they will grow?  Probably not. I'm so depressed that I couldn't keep them all intact.  So, it's all planted in composted cow manure in a half barrel with a little gravel on top and about 4 inches of water over the remaining tips.  It looks like mush in the barrel but I think it will settle out.  I put chicken wire held down with rocks over it to keep the dogs out.   I hope it grows.

They were huge tubers.  I got my yesterday as well.  They were beautiful, and packed with alot of TLC.  I've been scouting out the yard trying to decide where I'm going to sink my pots.  This make 6 Lotus for me, 4 new ones this year.  I've gotta stop, but they're so pretty.
