A tulip photo
« on: August 13, 2006, 03:09:09 PM »
I was cleaning out my photo files when I came accross this photo I took at the Van Dusen gardens in Vancouver last May. The morning sun was shining through this group of tulips. I need to play with this photo some time but here it is straight from the camera.

I just thought some of you might like it.

Thanks! The contrast between the tulips and the little blue forgetmenots was very pretty and then the light shining through it all made for a beautiful photo. I like bright contrast in a garden.

Very nice.  O0

I went to Butchart one April and they used the FMNs with many of their bulb plantings, I loved the combinations but my FMNs always over power my bulbs.

I didn't realize Van Dusen did much with bulbs in spring, DH loves bulbs so we'll have to come to Vancouver in spring sometime. Maybe combine with the island.

Thanks LeeAnn and Sean. I'm not a bulb person either and have very few in my garden. The rodents eat them all anyway.

LeeAnn,
Van Dusen does have quite a few bulbs in the spring spotted throughout the gardens. They have a lot of rhodos at that time. There are some pretty awesome ponds with lilies too and I meant to go back in June or July to see them in boom but never made it.
If you do come to visit the gardens let me know. I'd love to do it with you.

I will certainly let you know. I would feel wrong visiting Vancouver without contacting my pond friends even if a full scale Partay isn't planned. :)

I've been to Van Dusen in October. It was beautiful but the ponds and a lot of the other sections were not at their peak. A lot of burnt and yellow pads in the pond. There were some nice fall colors and the conifers and heathers looked great. Went to Butchart on the same trip, no yellow or burning there. Just as stunning in October as June, August and April. Need to go for Christmas some year, I understand they put on quite a display of colored lights.

I have a lot of bulbs, but not a lot of tulips. I have hundreds of daffodils and lots of others. Bob loves tulips but they aren't my faves and they don't reliably come back here, they rot in winter.

When it's spring again, I'll bring again, tulips from Van-cou-ver, or words to that effect.
Great shot Maryvonne!

Cheers,

Mike

What pretty colors!  I had ordered some perrenial tulips recently, because after 10 years my old perrenial tulips were starting to be unreliable.  But I just opened the mail to discover they are on backorder.  Maybe I will get some regular tulips and plant them anyway.  Your photo is an inspiration!
