Drat the luck! I don't think my tadpoles will make it.
« on: June 05, 2007, 10:29:17 PM »
I had them in a ground level tub close to the pond.  I kept a screen over it to keep cats or whatever out.  I had a few rocks on the screen too.  I left room so a mature tadpole could exit and find the pond.
I would notice the screen moved twice, just a bit.   Turns out there was one well developed tadpole remaining.  Either a critter got them, or they went to the pond, I hope.
I put the last one in.  Fingers crossed, but not confident :'( :'(

Hi Jerry. Did your frogs have front and back legs when you put them out there? If so they are most likely in the pond. I remember you saying your pond was netted.. If so, and they got eaten, it was probably a common Garter snake. Do you see small snakes hangin around? They will hunt tadpoles.

You at least have one frog!!

When they were in the holding tub they were not developed.  The one I put in had back legs.
I have never seen a snake around here, ever.  Yes they are in the hills, but Rattlers only.

What I now know i should have done is put all of them in a spare stock tank (Skippy) with water lilies.   sigh.

Hopefully some frogs will find you.

I think too many of my tadpoles made it.   :o

I didn't bring any here -- but they sure have a way of finding water.

As I have said before, this is really a desert. Not a lot of water near.  A 20 mile hop at best

Ah darn it Jerry!  I was so hoping for a frog for you.   This year has been hard on all kinds of critters I'm afraid.  :'(

I'm sorry, Jerry.  I hope your one remaining tadpole will make it in the pond.

I was worried for a while about my tadpole/frog that I released in the pond after he was fully developed.  I hadn't seen him, but I did hear him singing in the pond.  Last weekend, my grandson saw him in the pond and I got to see him sitting on a lilypad.  @O@  Hopefully, the garter snakes will bypass my pond this year and I will still have one frog in my pond at least.   O0

What kind of critter could have gotten your tadpoles out of the tub if there aren't snakes around?

No raccoons about.  if there was they would have damaged the pond too.
Many cats though.  I had the cover weighted down too..
Many, many years ago we had a tiny seasonal stream and toads were around.  It is now and underground cement culvert.  Covered with huge weird homes.  Hey, I will take a photo of same.
They cost over 2 million ! :swear:  I agree those place are not worth t, but it is supply and demand.
People are paying it.
