Solar Cover ?

Y'all know how I like stocktanks...I have another one that could be put into use with a kiddie liner.

Do you think if I used a solar cover over it the water would warm up enough to get a jump start after April 1st to start a couple of tropicals and a lotus.  The liners are 15" high and the tank is 24". that would leave 9" between the cover and the water.  I use ratchet straps to hold my net on so I could do that with the cover.  The tank would be in full sun with no electric available.

Depends a lot on your weather..not sure what you mean by a kiddie liner?  Why not just use the stock tank?

Greenhouse cover here over the fish had me feeding last year in late March.. I expect to be feeding in early to mid March this year.

Here what you are suggesting would help that I could have lilies starting to grow early May.  I'm betting you are much warmer than we are..it's 19 here this morning..

 The average January temperature for Amarillo is 36.7 degrees while in Brownsville the average is 61.4. On March 27, 1984, the temperature in Brownsville was 106 degrees while Amarillo reported snow and 35 degrees.  I live 80 miles north of Amarillo.

Here in the nice Texas panhandle it was a pleasant 4.3* this morning.  The sun is shining and it has warmed up to a beautiful 20.5* at nearly noon.   Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  We are zone 6...cold in winter and hot in summer.  Average rainfall is about 18" per year.

I've been married to a farmer/rancher for 34 years come Valentines Day and he occasionally lets me have his leaky stocktanks that can no longer be patched.  The $20 kiddie pools fit the 8' stocktanks.  I line them with carpet and fill with water.  It is steardier than just the pool itself and so far it has stood up to 3 freezer with about 2" ice this winter.

I have another tank I can line this spring.  I so want to try a tropical lily and have a lotus survive.

I am zone 6 and I have put an old window over a oval stock tank in April and put my water hyicents out in it. And they really started growing. It worked for me.
