String Algae Question
« on: June 16, 2007, 08:49:32 AM »
My pond is fine, but I do have it in a kiddie pool where I raise plants.  Before transferring a plant to the pond I pull off the algae I can.  The Question is.... am I affecting the big pond?  So far it seems like I am not.   Why is this so?

Jerry, I suspect that SA can be transferred from one pond to another. But on the other hand, it seems to need ideal conditions to survive. So maybe I'm right on both hands. Or then again, maybe I'm wrong.  Did that help?

yea Jerry, i figure most of us are experts-by-experience when it comes to string algae but none of us really understand it!! my experience is that it shows up everywhere but is a bit less in the pond with its filtration system than in the tubs. i wouldn't expect moving a 'cleaned up' plant from the tub to the pond to cause a sudden explosion of algae, but i wouldn't expect the algae to just disappear either.

let's face it Jerry, sometimes you're just an unexplainably lucky guy!!

(ok, i could go into a long diatribe about karma and how it's not really so unexplainable that you're so lucky, but.. ;) )

LOL  lol lol I am lucky, and I know it.  Much to be grateful for.  To me Thanksgiving day was the most meaningful holiday.
