« on: June 13, 2007, 03:06:40 PM »
didn't quite get home in time to see it fully opened and wasn't satisfied with the pics i got then. but today it delivered with a beautiful third day performance and i was johnny on the spot. please excuse the aphids - i've never had them this early in the season before. need to get out and hose them off better to feed the fishies! also a couple of bonuses i got today -

thank you all so much! sorry to hear about the deer making a meal of gonnere! sounds like cause for venison stew! i really thought the raccoons would destroy this bud before it bloomed. it came up right next to the edge by the rock shelf. i felt really blessed that they ignored it!

Bonnie, it is my own feeling that anyone who claims not to like white liles has probably never seen one of the nicer ones like gonnere or moonlight in person. there is nothing that adds more elegance to a water feature than a nice white lily. once Tammie sent me a bunch of tropicals in a trade and despite all the beautiful blues and greens, the one that left an imprint on me was a white thai import. been hooked on finding truly beautiful whites ever since. thankfully there are some really beautiful ones among the hardies!! i'm just getting started with whites as far as i'm concerned.

also you'll be glad to know that after i took these pics i got down into the pond and figured out that the only lily i lost was arc-en-ciel. so your colorado is still there and i'm just waiting to see it bloom at some point! you know i'll post pics when it does! i was surprized to find the arc-en-ciel rotting as it had some nice pads up in february before i let the watercress and parrot's feather get a bit out of hand. (i also hosed the aphids off and the fish had a feeding frenzy - just need to do it regularly i think!)

Ed your pics are great!  LOVE the Gonnerre- can't wait for mine to bloom- lots of pads, but no bud yet :-\  Love the Moon Dance too- just got it a few weeks ago, and although it only has 3 or 4 small pads, it is sending up a bud already @O@  Can't wait to see it- yours looks great!

I'm one of those that don't care for white blooms but I do think Gonnere is an exceptional lily.

Beautiful pic of Gonnere. It is certainly one of the best whites. I'm not real fond of the whites either and I've actually gotten rid of my other whites with the exception of Gonnere and this unkown white. This white has huge blooms and they are gorgeous.

I'm not a huge fan of white in general either but those are both really nice.

Ed, Your photos of Gonerre are gorgeous. I'm not a fan of white flowers period but Gonerre is on my wish list. Moondance and your day lily are beautiful too.
Shanna, your white lily is very pretty too. Nicely photographed too.

Love your white lily Shanna  O0  I am a fan of whites, though most people aren't.  Yellows are MY least favorite  :P

well, pinks are my least favorite but i've got exceptions to that as well!  :P

Shanna your unknown is very nice although i must admit it looks an awful lot like gonnere. and whether or not you like whites in general, i've always known you to have exquisite taste in lilies! your pics are great!

i also guess i stand a bit corrected as i know many of those who said they don't care for whites have had a chance to see some nice ones.

joey - hope you see some blooms soon! i got mine last year and it didn't do anything but throw up some pitiful pads. i was really disappointed. but this year it is outperforming everything else so far. the bloom above is the second and a third is almost ready to open. the first one decided to open just as the weather went foggy and never opened to more than a cup shape every day. i was still really happy with that given how it did last year!

and thanks again to all for the compliments!!

oh, and when i went out to hose off aphids today, there were not that many on there. i'm sure they'll be back but for now i'm shockingly thrilled with how well one hose down worked!!  @O@  sorry your fish don't like the little critters LeeAnne! maybe you just need some smaller fish to whom a little aphid looks like a big meal!  o(

Thanks Ed.  I got Gonnerre late in the season last year and it didn't have a chance to bloom.  This year it has really taken off producing a TON of lush large green pads, but no buds yet... Hopefully with the recent fertilizing I gave it, some buds will start forming.  I have admired Gonnerre blooms in pics for years- really anxious to have one of my own.  And I agree with you- Shanna always has great lily pics!  :)  Good luck with the aphids!

Many of the whites look the same and I can't tell the difference in most of them. However, this one is quite different from Gonnere. I have it as well and they don't look anything alike in the flowers when they are blooming and the pads are quite different. :) Thanks for the compliment! ;)

actually Shanna always has great looking lilies! the pictures are just a great byproduct of that  ;)

Shanna - wasn't trying to say it was gonnere - more that your taste in whites seems to be consistent - big blooms with lots of petals!

It does have big pads. You can't really tell from the second pic but those pads are about dinner plate size. :) I wish I knew what it was. It was supposed to be Lilypons but when it bloomed last year I could see that it wasn't but its still a neat lily.  :)

ok Shanna, it just hit me as i was doublechecking this thread to make sure i hadn't forgotten to reply to something -

if those pads are almost the size of a dinner plate, then the blooms must be about the size of a salad bowl !!  :D

really cool lily!!
