Silvermist is blooming finally
« on: July 11, 2007, 09:17:05 PM »
This is the first time I've seen it bloom, I was gone last summer when it finally bloomed.

The mottled pads belong to Silvermist, the huge, quilted green pads belong to Afterglow.

Another Afterglow bloom.  What is it with those little flies that get in the blooms and seem to be drowning?

Beautiful photos! I don't know about your bugs. That seems strange, we never get that. We get tiny little bees that spend an eternity on them. Could they be ants?

Your Silvermist is beautiful  8-)~  Could those be ants in the afterglow, the kinds with wings?

Yep, you're probably right and they are winged ants.  I first thought they were ants but saw wings on some of them. I really didn't get all that close to check them out.  I dumped some out yesterday, I was hoping the fish would come over and eat them but they didn't.  I do have ants on the lily pads, I have no idea how they are getting there but probably where the pads touch the side of the pond somewhere.  It's almost like a flytrap or something, it looks like they get in there and can't get out because they are all kind of swimming around.

I got it from Van Ness Water Gardens, I've heard since that they are not well thought of.  I don't know who developed it, I just looked in their catalog and it doesn't say.
