Cool find
« on: July 16, 2007, 07:57:13 PM »
On our way home from kings island today we stopped at a Home Depot and look at what I got.

It was labeled as a hibiscus.  But I think it is a japanese maple, and I only paid $5 for it  @O@ @O@ @O@.  Am I right, is it a japanese maple? And if so does anyone know the name of it?

That's my 1st thought....a maple.  But at $5 at HD any plant is a great deal.  Great find if it is a maple!

There are multiple Hibiscus species that do have maple shaped leaves. There are many more Hibiscus than the common tropical H. rosa-sinensis found in gardens in warm climates.

The leaf does look like a Japanese Maple but the growth at the left of the photo at the top of the plant does not.

 H. acetosella ‘Haight Ashbury’ looks just like that.

Is the tag from Proven Winners or Log House Plants? They both grow it.

It is a cool plant.  O0  You can winter it over in the house if you have a sunny window. It is a great deal. I would have bought it if I found it here. It blooms and those leaves are fabulous.

Scott.. a few people that don't know any better say that my young Jap. Maple looks like a pot plant so they can look like other plants! ;)

Sorry Monica but maybe you can use it as a container plant and overwinter indoors... regardless it's very pretty!
