Hornwort Disappearing
« on: July 22, 2007, 11:17:55 AM »
For years, I've had to regularly buy hornwort for my pond.  But not for a long time... For all winter and spring, the hornwort in my pond has been growing like CRAZY.  It totally covered the surface of the pond, several inches thick, and kept replacing itself whenever I cleaned some out.

Now, as of last week, it's been disappearing.  I don't think there's a problem... I just think it doesn't last well in the summer.

Ahh... and excuse for a trip out to the pond store.   :D

One reason I buy hornwort and not something like anachras (sp?) is because, supposedly, it's one thing the fish do NOT eat.  At least not a readily.

But I'll bet you're on to something... perhaps with the weather, length of daylight, etc., they are eating greenery more.  Maybe time for shredded carrots, citrus, etc.

One good thing...I can actually SEE my fish now, without all that cover.   :)  Of course, so can the raccoons and heron.   :'(
