Mailbox Island bed.. does this pot look out of place.
« on: September 18, 2006, 01:16:09 PM »
I am making a island bed around my mailbox area which will be all ornamental grasses.  Still have to finish up and paint the rock.   I have this mailbox planter.  Does it look out of place?

As long as your surname is Marks, should be fine. I know landscaping takes a while to fill in, and look like it is supposed to be, so I think it's a great idea. Only negative I came up with, is a wooden post planted deeply in (damp) soil for a significant part of the year - any worries on rot?

I love natural stuff, but I am so sick and tired of wood that needs replacing - and I am in a very dry part of the world.

Cheers,

Mike

Here's a tip for getting more life from a wooden post. Before you place it in the ground coat the part that will be below the dirt line with tar or roofing sealer. This is a tip from our old carpenter neighbor. Just slop it on with a paint brush. We did our wooden garden fence posts this way many years ago and no sign of rotting whatsoever.
