Friendship Plant
« on: February 19, 2008, 11:11:29 AM »
I bought this plant last March. It just looked like a green sort of anthurium.
Last week it had pink spikes come up and then over the last few days these cool multi colored blooms appeared.
I am guessing that in a few weeks the flowers will die and then it will be green for another year but it is really neat in color and structure.

In case you could not read the photo of the plant stake, it is called Billbergia nutans.
It is just a neat spiky bromeliad 95% of the year, rather small.

It was a pretty cool surprise since I had no expectations.

Still has blooms after a week. I'll see how long it lasts.

:) Tim that is a beautiful plant. My mother has had all kinds of plants since we were kids. She is 78 now and losing her eyesight so she is not moving around too good. but she still loves her plants. May I ask where you bought the plant. I would like to get her one for Easter....
Also, I guess you know already but the Pineapple is a member of the bromeliad family as well.....we have three of them growing.

I bought it at an annual local plant sale here. Mercer Arboretum is famous locally as an arboretum.
Each March they have a plant sale to fund projects for the year.

It is geargious Tim. I'm assuming it's a tropical and I can't have one here?
I'm just happier outside!
