Wish I was in that turtles spot, basking in the sun and warmth.  Great shot!  One question though, did ya have to rub it in saying you were wearing shorts.  I'm jealous, we've had snow showers since yesterday.  Then on Sunday suppose to be 58.

I've been busting buns trying to get everything in the garden ready for this heat wave while I go away for the week.  The prep work never ends!  I'll have get a pic of my turtles drying in the heatwave waiting for the sun to come over their way.  ;D

Mike you have turtles that know how to pose...or what?   O0  That shot tells everything, how beautiful and hot it was today and how lucky they are to be in Mikey's pond!  @O@

My turtles will need lessons from your guys.  Here are a few of them enjoying the heat after the sun went behind the trees.  I took this picture from inside the house by a window right next to their aquarium (located outside).  They don't care that I'm there or if I move around.  Doesn't faze them but once I go outside they scramble even if I don't go near them!  :o  Figure that one!

Curious what you do to keep them contained in the pond?

Love the pictures, have had many turtles over the years before the ponds, non have wandered in, but frogs they are all over every year.  Good ?? Bonnie, thought most people have problems with them wandering off.  We had box turtles in the house as pets, they use to rip holes in the patio screen doors, to get out.  If it had just rained you'd find them out in a puddle.  The female one day either fell or walked off the deck and we never found her.

I try to cleverly make the pond escape proof.  I lost a few rght away, since then I refined the rock placement and Have hod no escapes in maybe 4 years.

I think I need bigger haul out rocks so they need not bask alone. I nice flat piece of flagstone maybe.

Bonnie: I just got mine late last summer from a neighbor so I have not really tested their wanderlust desires....    They can easily get out of the pond but my yard is pretty well contained and I don't think they could escape if they wanted.  This year will be the true test.

I live in the lowlands and have many vernal ponds.
The frogs make a noise that visitors are frightened of! There are thousands of them! (frogs, not visitors)
We don't even notice the noise of the frogs during a rain, but visitors are freaked out asking what that HUGE noise is!!!!

My escape proof pnd!  Lo and behold, we spotted one well on the way to freedom, but he slipped, thank god.  Freedom here would mean certain death.  No water for many miles.

Don't know my turtles very well but two years ago I had either a painted or red slider in my fountain pond so I put it in my lower goldie pond... something was getting my goldies at the time and I thought it was the turtle so when it went missing I wasn't too upset at the time.  BUT a couple of weeks later I noticed the bird from hell kept coming to the ponds so I'd just bet it was the culprit.

DD brought me home two babies that she caught at one of the local creeks so I put them in the lilypond and they escaped in no time.

Won't be long at all before I have way too many frogs and toads in the pond... And yes I throw out the toad eggs!

And here I go around to the drainage ditches and COLLECT toad eggs!  And would REALLY like to get some frogs to stay around here.  Some go in the pond, but others I hatch out and raise in 5-gallon tubs.

I have a turtle pen and pond, and this year have collected 5 hatchling stinkpots, and one AFRICAN SIDENECK - which is a really big deal, as I wasn't sure I had both sexes, let alone that they would reproduce in a non-native environment, let alone any of them hatching and then surviving, and then my happening to see it and catch it.

When I notice a next of turtle eggs (you can spot the newly-dug ground), I dig them up CAREFULLY and move them out of the turtle pen, to where the water turtles can hatch and make it to the koi pond quickly.  Baby box turtles, well, I don't know where they go... somewhere in the yard.  Maybe I'll find them eventually.

At any rate, all these babies, I have learned the hard way, not to mix them with the adults, as they would become dinner in no time.  So, once the weather is stable and the pond expansion is finished, they'll be moved to the koi pond, where they will be safe for a year or two.  Once they start bothering the fish, and once they're large enough, they'll be moved to the turtle pond.

I have frogs in my pond and plant water pots.  I hear them croaking all night.  The only frogs I see freely are the tadpoles.  But once they become frogs they disappear until mating season rolls around beginning with the croaking.  Most of the bigger tadpoles I catch go to the pond and the turtles - free food.

I would love to have a frog live in the pond and swim around or bask in the sun on a lily pad.....so idyllic  :D
