Desertponder, Believe me, if she wants in water, she gets in water. She's a waterbaby and loves to swim.

Great picture! I thought the same thing cuz my dog loves the water and has her own kiddy pool too. When I started digging she would come in and lay in the fresh cool dirt and I started getting after her then. Now even when her ball or frizzbe gets in it she wont go in for them!
I'm just happier outside!

They can be very smart and trained to not go in.  I had a white shepard, looked so much like yours.   She loved being by the pond, but stayed out.  The last few years her eyesight was failing and in the winter she would have a hard time telling where the snow ended and the ice started, she fell in a couple times.   She had a habbit of loving to lay out in the snow for hrs. no matter how cold
Adopt the pace of nature;
Her secret is patience.

Thank you all, yes they can be trained to stay out of things. But this is the one thing she really enjoys. We rescued her from North Texas, and she is pretty shy. She was mistreated and remembers it well. When we first got Ayainna, she would flinch and run if someone used a loud voice or moved quickly. She is a very good girl and we don't have any discipline problems with her. We have had her for 8 years and if dad gets mad at the computer or raises his voice, she goes to the door and wants to go out, we reassure her and let her know we're not mad at her, but out she goes until she thinks it's safe again.
She doesn't play with toys like other animals; balls, squeaky toys and stuffed animals--she acts like she's not allowed to have them and if she does pick up a stuffed animal, looks at us like we're going to yell. The pups have a basket of toys in the house and outside, and the only things that she will touch are pig ears or rawhide chews.

Ayainna is beautiful, Wolfmom!   O0 Is she half-wolf or all-wolf?  Do you have pictures of the puppies?  I'd love to see them.   :)

Sandye, Ayainna is a 70% Arctic Wolf, mixed with White Shepherd. Sorry to disappoint you, O'Sota and Ayainna are our puppies even though they just turned 11 years old. You can find pictures of both of them in the "I Hope You Don't Mind" thread, started by BullFrog.

She may be your pup but she's waaaay too big for the kiddie pool!  ;D  Looks like you'll just have to build a bigger pond  @O@  Somehow we'll talk you into one...

I can certainly understand why you want to be careful about discipline.
Here's a thought! Get a 300 gallon poly stock tank and bury it for her to play in.
It might help keep her out of your pond.
There are a few people on various ones of the forums that have built ponds that
they allow their dogs to swim in along with the fish.
