Pop-Up Advertisement Question
« on: January 16, 2008, 03:44:50 PM »
I have pop-up blocker software that works except for one kind of instance.  There are a couple of places I visit where they have apparently embedded an advertising pop-up into the link.  The ads are usually NetFlix or Classmates.  Thus when I click on the link to take me to the site I want to visit it sometimes opens a pop-up ad which opens momentarily and then immediately drops down to my task-bar.  Sometimes I have to click on the link a second time to get it to open.  The links to these sites don't do it every time but enough times to make it a nuisance.   What can I do to stop these irritating ads?

I have the exact same thing happening on my computer.  Same ads as you.  I run Trend Micro PC-cillin.  Wish we could get an answer.

I use Trend also Karen.  It catches everything else except those tricky one's that they somehow hide in with a link.

That will only give them your email address....for more garbage!

If you use either IE or MF for searching isn't there, in the upper right hand corner a place to disable pop ups?

My popup thing is engaged....and happily engaged at that  ;)  but it doesn't catch those sneaky ones and neither does my anti-virus popup catcher....

Come to think of it,  I read the website for Better Homes and Garden and they always have pop-ups for subscribing to their magazine.  Must be a built-in that cannot be caught by these programs.

I get an annoying one from "Lime Wire" It is there everyday to welcome me!  hate it.
Also my computer keeps telling me I am low on disc space, it's not true, not even close.
I would like both of these to be gone! Oh yeah an "Apple" update offer is also a pain

Jerry, have you done the "apple" quicktime and itunes update? Once you install the updates at least that one should disappear. Also I would suggest staying as far away from limewire as possible!

I did it and all by myself.  I went to the control panel and found a place listing what is allowed.
Lime Wire was there. I um checked the box and whoopee it's gone.
