Odds & Ends Around the Garden.....
« on: September 22, 2006, 05:53:52 PM »
Below are a few of the things growing in and about the garden…

Tecoma

Salvia

Persian Shield

Maiden Hair Fern

Coleus

Bambusa vulgaris vittata - This is my favorite of the bamboos.  This is a new culm that appeared about two-three weeks ago.  It’s presently perhaps 8-9’ tall.  This is a timber bamboo and the culms will become much larger as the plant matures and when I get it out of its pot.

They are all absolutely lovely . . . . wish my garden was looking that colorful today.  I had 3 passiflora blooming and the lantana but that's about all . . . well, impatiens, but that's always blooming.  And to top it off it was a gloomy, dreary day.

Boy, the color and texture are outstanding!
The red and yellow together are a knockout! That verigated bamboo is soooooooooo cool. 8)

But what really caught my attention was the black mortor between the bricks. I like that look, now I just have to find a spot to do it.

Thanks for the compliments.

The black mortar caused quite a bit of............err.... discussion between the fetching Mrs. Mikey and I.  She hated the look and the mason and I liked the look....  So in order to balance things out I went with her choice for the paint color for the house even though I disliked it.....  Marriage is full of compromises eh?

I agree with Mrs. Mikey. (8:-)
I'd rather have people notice the masonry because it's done so well,
not because it's dyed to be noticed. But that's just me. ::)

I recently talked a client out of dying her mortar green cuz she wanted it to look mossy.
Not only did I save her money, her mortar is green with moss already.

I just don't like dyed mortar at all.

Now grout, that's another thing.... :D
