Garden Photos (warning - lots of pictures)
« on: April 10, 2008, 11:30:51 AM »
In another thread someone asked to see pictures of my garden.  It is very small and full of 'stuff'.  Some of these are recent and some are a bit older.

I hope you enjoy.   :)

Behind the garage is my potting bench.   O0

Thank you kindly Tinkster and Kat.

It's funny...  before moving here we lived on three and a half acres.  I think this place is more work.   :)  I've got so many plants in pots and I am way behind on getting them re-potted.  And then there are the plants I bought and set down last fall that have set root through their nursery pots.  Now what am I going to do?   :o

Thanks for your kind comments.

Is your pond concrete?  Need more details  8-)~

Annette, the pond is gunite (like many swimming pools).  It is about four feet deep and holds approximately 1400 gallons.  There are two bottom drains, a skimmer and bead filter.  It is home to about 12-14 goldfish.  I've got Sarassa comets, a Shubunkin, Wakins, Ryukins and Frogheads.

Thanks for more beautiful photos of your pond, Sonny.  The 2 large pots above the water are great.  I like that Idea very much.  Isn't there another small pond in a container of sorts in the photo of the potted clivia plant?

Thanks Mike.

Annette, I have two 'container ponds'.  The one by the clivia in the pictures is an old English blacksmith's trough made of iron.  It holds about forty to fifty gallons and is currently home to two goldfish that were the spawn of some telescopes I have inside.  I also have a 300 gallon galvanized horse trough where I keep some more of my goldfish, mostly Ranchus and Orandas.

Gorgeous! MORE PHOTOS!!!!

I love orandas... they are soooo ugly, that they are cute. My big red oranda, we call him King Richard, is about 9 inches long. Pretty soon I'm going to have to get him a bigger aquarium. I can't keep goldfish outside because of the birds. We don't live in town.

I love your pot of Clivia. Mine keep getting too wet, and their roots rot. At one time I had a bunch, I only have a few weedy ones left. Got any growing suggestions? (Other than don't water... duh!)

The architecture of your garden is SPECTACULAR!!! I love the way everying moves around, and flows. Makes the space seem bigger. I bet you have a lot of meals out there. I would.
Oops - where is the barbq?

Thanks Sunbeam!  I'm going to have to get some more pictures together.  I've about exhausted my supply.   ::)

I am really into fancy goldfish and would love to see a picture of King Richard.

As for Clivia, I must admit I don't know the official horticultural requirements.  I heard they like to be pot-bound so I potted it up 8 years ago and that was that.  I don't water it much, maybe once a week.  It's in a mostly shady spot under the Indian Laurel.

We have a gas bbq we keep in the garage.  It gets used in the driveway once or twice a week.   O0
