I have spent years fixing up the inside, and back garden of my old house, but the front had always been a field of weeds in winter, and a dust bowl in summer.
Almost done now with tweaking this area - with raised planting beds, and walkways.
First area was street level -

MikeW,

Nice before and after pic's.  Look like that took a lot of work, but the end results sure are nice!

just awesome!  I need to do the same.. I have focused everything on the back yard which few see and front looks horrid... I cant seemd to get a plan in mind like you did though.  I am on a pretty steep dust bowl incline but not as bad as yours.

Hey Sunbeam - Saltillos all the way. My house is a Spanish / Mexican style, so I just continued the look. Now the boxes of Sautillo at Home Depot - avoid them like the plague. At least 40% of the tiles are broken when the package is opened, and no return is allowed. I found it WAY cheaper to speng $1.45 per tile from a reputable dealer, compared to HD $1.00 per tile, but you are buying trash with no come back.

Also, the old HD tiles I laid are shedding skin and looking tacky - I sincerely wish I was not a cheap +ss, and had spent the extra $1000 to surround my home in quality materials.

The more I do things myself, the more I avoid Home Depot.

Cheers,

Mike

Jerry -Yes. We do have to plan a West Coast Ponders Get Together, so I am thinking your place for Northern L.A., Mikeys' for Southern L.A., or my place for central, close ot Arboretum / Huntington Library L.A. place.

I am thinking a Huntington Library type experience - have not been there in 20 years, but what a magnificent set of gardens they have, even if one does not have the $20,000,000 pocket change to buy Gainesborough's "Blue Boy" hanging in the gift shop.

Let's do a Huntington get together - with Sundowners at my place later.

Cheers,

Mike

Great before and after.  That was a lot of work and you did it yourself?  Your Spanish/ Mexican Villa looks regal.

I would love to do a Huntington Library tour especially with the new Chinese Garden they just opened.  Haven't been there for probably 10+ years.  Definitely would enjoy a few sundowners at Casa Mike's.  @O@

Beautiful!  No steep hills around here like that, I'm a flatlander...I really love the look of it.  Very secluded and stylish.   8-)~
