Pics - Spring pond 2008
« on: April 12, 2008, 09:45:10 AM »
The pink lily is our "Fool Pink" - I lost the tag after I got it. It blooms all winter long here.

The bridge is a prototype. Once I'm satisfied with where it is, the shape it is, we will build a bridge in the same place with some permanence. What do you think?

The iris are just regular, but so cheerful. :)

Nice pond!  Looking at your photos before reading your post I thought you must not weigh much to be able to use the planks on blocks  ;D  But that is a great way to test the layout!

The pink lily blooms all winter too?!!  Must be nice!  :D

Yes, it does look like a natural pond.  Love the bridge placement, it will give a few different viewing vantages which is nice. ;)

I am not sure what you mean by a natural pond. There was a low spot in the yard, and so I deepened it. It doesn't have a liner, or any walls. Just mud... :)

Because it takes the runoff from the front yard, its a fertilizer soup. The water lilies love it - so do all the water weeds.

The fool pink lily has bigger blooms in the summer - other than that, it keeps on blooming all year round. I wish I knew what it is. I like it, anyway. :)

That bridge looks like something Karate Kid would be out on, practicing high kicks. ;)

I REALLY like the layout of the bridge. can you post pics from different angles and maybe the views from different spots along the bridge? The achitectural shape of the bridge will add a nice touch to your pond. Is it big enough for a spray fountain somehwere? that might be a nice touch.

I haven't put any fish in the pond. But it has fish. There are minners, perch, and giant bullfrog tadpoles, among the usual dragonfly larvae and other things that come to water.
Around here, you can dry out a hole, and two weeks after you put in water, there will be a minner. I think the birds bring them in.

Because of the birds, its not safe for the goldies. And its too shallow for koi.

I'll take more photos later. There are three main viewpoints I was interested in. Now I need a long weekend and some slave labor.  @O@
Maybe I'll clean up a little too. I've been weeding in the pond all winter, and there are piles of drying water weeds on all the banks. :)

I really like the look of your pond Sunbeam.  A bridge layout like the one you've chosen is going to be great!  Like the others, I would love to see more pictures.  emm

emm I think it is a great pond. You are lucky you will never have a hole in your liner.  What a wonderful idea, to just dig it deeper and let nature take its course, and fish  ( build it and they will come) just appear.
