Ozone kills sharks
« on: April 16, 2008, 06:27:48 AM »
 :(
Moody Gardens Aquarium lost a couple of sharks due to a spike in ozone over the last day or two.
Moody, like commercial aquariums everywhere, has a top-o-the-line filtration system, heavily regulated, very smart and modern. But it glitched.
When the workers arrived in the morning two sharks were bottom dead, and two were "distressed". So they sent divers into the water (dropping jaw) to give the sharks shots....

Personally, I'd think that any shark (they are never tame) that would allow a diver to give it a shot is likely dead already.

I saw this on the news yesterday too.  Thank goodness no other fish died and hopefully none are worse for the experience.  Just goes to show you how things can go wrong no matter how careful you try to be.

Ozone is one thing I still don't understand...It really seems like it could be scary to use...

If you don't know what you are doing with it..it obviously..is lethal to fish and it ain't to healthy for us either in overdose.

But is IS a great sterilizer and is used in many applications where clean water is a must
