Today in the Garden - April 16
« on: April 16, 2008, 09:38:34 AM »

Well, it's not really a bloom, but it's darn good eating   @O@  The avocados are starting to drop so I guess it's guacamole time...

I have 4 or 5 different epis and this is the first to bloom this spring.  The others are also loaded with buds...

I was wondering what this amaryllis would look like and this is its first bloom.  I grew several from seed about 4 or 5 years ago but in the meantime I had forgotten from which amaryllis the seeds came from.  Appears to look like it came from seeds of my 'Prins Carnival' amaryllis.

Nice, nice, nice!
How are your kangaroo paws out on the parkway? Thanks to your tip, I have kept fertilizer away from mine, (still to figure which P is bad for them) and they have bounced back.

Cheers,

Mike

Glad you guys enjoy the photos.  I'm looking forward to seeing photos of things I can't grow such as peonies.

Mike: The kangaroo paws in the parkway are doing well.......except for kids walking by who keep reaching out and grabbing the flowering stalks of the paws, as well as other things in bloom, and either snap them off and drop them on the sidewalk or bend them in half....  I've lost two stalks thus far from my kangaroo paws.  Unfortunately my corner house is on a street used by kids walking to both a nearby high school and nearby elementary school.....

You mean you have a bare spot in your garden to wait for the seeds to make something happen?!?  :D

Are your red poppies by seed too?

Annette: Yes, the poppy is from seed also.

Alfonso: Yes, against the fence there are four rose bushes of which only two can be seen.  The red one is 'Mr. Lincoln'.

How you grow Clematis here is beyond me.  All look great!  We get hot dry winds, so i had to give up on Avocados.  I did try.

Gorgeous!
I planted seeds of the pink flower in the second photo whose name escapes me at the moment. Not sure if they are coming up yet or not.

I keep taking pics but they are all still on memory cards....
