TURTLE RESCUE!!!
« on: April 19, 2008, 06:39:58 PM »
We went to visit my friend John today, who owns and runs River Roads Koi in Manorville.  o(
http://www.longislandkoi.com/ (that logo is my artwork!)

Right after we turned on to River Road, I saw a little something crossing the road...
ALMOST hit it!  :o
So I backed up a bit jumped out and grabbed him before anybody ran him over...
Gave him to Jamie for the rest of the ride to Johns...

John, Jamie and the turtle just before release into the wetlands in the woods across the street from John's house....

Natural pond we passed walking out to the swamp where we released the turtle....

John helping Jamie release the turtle...

Splashing down into the swamp....FREE!  @O@

Swimming....FREE!

He was such a beautiful little turtle! 8)
Peace to all  ... Joyce

Oh I love the painteds. One time we took a tiny painted off the road and brought him home. We had him for about 6 weeks and he would swim into our hands when we went out to feed him and the fish. But eventually he disappeared.

That was a fun experience for Jamie.

I LOVE that, Joyce!  What a great experience for Jamie (and the turtle).  o(:-)  I hate seeing turtles hit along the road --or anything else for that matter  :P

Thanks everyone, yes, it was a great experience for all involved!  o(:-)

Esther, we had a painted in the front big pond at work, and he was just as tame.
(Jamie named him Sherwin Williams)  lol
He suddenly showed up one day, acting tame.
Always came right into my hand for koi food.
I think he was someones pet who dumped him in the pond.
Anyway, he has been there 2 years now, have not seen him yet this year but he may not be active yet,
or I simply haven't noticed him eyt. :search:

That was a really good story. We used to take the kids to the beach almost every evening after I got off of work. Once we came upon a large Red Eared Slider upside down on the highway.

I stopped and pulled over and put him safely beside the road. My kids were really young, all under 13 but they still remember this to this day and will probably stop and help a turtle in distress.

God bless you for this.
