Cypress Point Pond Re-construction Completed!
« on: May 09, 2008, 11:22:30 AM »
Hello Everyone!

I am proud to say that just this morning the last plant was put in place and thankfully our pond reconstruction is now complete.  Attached are three quick photographs to celebrate the occasion. (I was not patient enough to wait for the best lighting that is why these are in partial shade/sunlight). After the Trumpet Vine goes into full bloom I will post another group of pictures.

Before providing a bit more information about the project I want to give special thanks to all those that helped with encouragement, advice and information.

Added Special Note: "On some monitors you may have difficulty viewing the photographs. In some areas of the pond the water is overly dark due to shade from the trees and overall the surface of the pond is very reflective"

Enjoy!

Reconstruction Summary:

Reconstruction started way back in the early fall of 2007.  The purpose of the project was to relay a new liner as the original had a hidden split that could not be found.

In preparation all boulders, large stone, logs and plants had to be removed. Once the liner was relaid the hard-scape was designed then put in place. Next came landscaping.  The original pond was fed by a man made stream. In keeping the the theme "less is more" the old stream was filled.  Oklahoma flagstone was places around the front of the pond with the original feather stone surrounding the remaining pond perimeter.  New St. Augustine grass was laid over the newly filled in stream bed and surrounding areas of the pond.  The area between the pond and fence proved to be the most difficult area to landscape.  Being isolated we chose to place a variety of tropical and semi-tropical planting.  Each plant is potted to provide easy repositioning and replanting during other seasons.  To ensure weeds do not grow in this area the ground is covered with excess pond liner.  Atop the liner is a synthetic mulch manufactured by DuPont.  It is completely non-toxic, will not float nor blow away and best of all it looks identical to natural hardwood mulch.

"This was DIY family project".     8)

You did a fabulous job re-designing the pond and surroundings.  Lush and very green planting.  I like the large pieces of flagstone around the pond.  I can't wait for the trumpet vines to bloom either!  Thanks for sharing your creation.

Your pond is beautiful!  I love the rock work.   O0  And the lush, tropical plantings make it look so serene.  I bet your blood pressure drops when you're sitting out there.   :)

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Your pond is beautiful Louis.  It looks like it has been there forever.  Like the others I too like the natural look you have achieved.  I especially like your "floating" rocks.  Looking forward to seeing some more photos.  emm
