Mans it's hot
« on: June 03, 2008, 02:31:48 PM »
:D :D :D  Gotta love this Texas weather.  We were down to 33* the first week of May.  Yesterday it was 108* and already 104* today.

The heat has been hard on my lilies.  They are just unnamed ones, but have been blooming nicely for nearly a month.  The ones I divided early in the spring are blooming the best.

That is my Texas Star Hybiscus in the blue tubs.  It managed to survive a zone 6 winter.  It was outside the tank for the winter.

This is a WalMart lily GD picked last spring.  It is suppose to be a Colorado.  It is blooming best in the heat.  I'm watering the lawn this morning before it gets too hot.

Very pretty pics.

Its not that hot here, but the humidity.  It feels like a soup pot when you walk outside.  Steamy, doesn't take but a few minutes to make ya feel all dirty and sticky.

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.

Your lilies look nice!  How deep and wide are your tubs?  Any shade for protection from the hot sun?

I have 2 8' stocktanks 24" deep that have no protection from the sun.  Other than green water, the lilies have done fine.  It was the wind yesterday that did the damage.

The little 160 gallon tank in under a little shade for awhile each morning and late afternoon.

I moved the 90 gal oval to the east side of the storage shed.  I have my lotus in it.  It is still alive, but that is all I can say.  Lawanna thinks we might be too hot and dry for them to do well here.  This will be my last attempt with lotus.  If I ever get an aerial lef...I'll post a pic.

Well they look pretty good in your pics but 108 is pretty darn stinking hot. :D
We usually don't see much more than 105 here but not until July. We're in the 80's now but its supposed to cool off again with a storm coming in.

Are those blue tubs IN your pond?  or next to it?

Beautiful lilies.  Mine haven't bloomed yet.  Not a one.   :'(

The blue tubs are in the tank.  My plan was to plant my lotus in there...Lawanna told me to put them in afternoon shade...so I transplanted the hybiscus in there.  Hoping it will grow really big and provide a little shade anyway.

ITs so dry here that the trees are chasing the dogs around.  lol

We've been watering at the office for two days - 24 hours a day - and there are still areas where we are rushing to keep the plants from dying. Hardies too - Holly fern bed is miserable.  :'(
